About

Uberlanding? Ja, uberlanding! This is a German twist on Overlanding,

self-reliant overland travel to remote destinations where the journey is the principal goal. Typically, but not exclusively, it is accomplished with mechanized off-road capable transport (from bicycles to trucks or troopies) where the principal form of lodging is camping, often lasting for extended lengths of time (months to years) and spanning international boundaries. But about us

Sharing the passion for Australia, Markus and Lydia decided to travel the country together and started preparing, picking the right car was of utmost importance and after a rushed Easter road trip with a rental 4WD it was pretty clear that a troopy was the way to go! We have since split up on good terms, and it doesn’t seem right to change the blog and the amazing experiences we shared to a single person adventure. So from 2018 onwards it’s now Markus and friends journeys being documented here, mixed in with some throwback memories of what was an awesome trip around Australia in 2016/17.

Lydia

Lydia

The first time Lydia set foot on Aussie ground was in 2011. When it comes to Australia travel, she has already circumvented the country once and is now off for a second round! Lydia is generally a very outdoorsy and active type and loves to explore nature in all way’s: bush hiking, horse riding, mountain climbing, swimming in nature pools or diving into the deep blue sea. She’s also is interested in sustainability and keeping our planet beautiful. No matter where Lydia is travelling, she is always trying to leave a place nicer than she found it. You can follow her footprints here and see what she is discovering.

Markus

Markus

Markus first steps in Australia date back to 2008. His initial plans were to work for a year, then travel for a year. However, in 2016 that was 7 years ago. Whilst he has seen every major city in Australia he’s definitely not seen much of the “real” country. He is typically a little bit of an over-thinker and planner. He might not look the part but he is a bit of a nerd, who likes board games, rock climbing, tinkering with microcontrollers and working on the troopy with Lydia. When he’s able to take a break away from this he’s reading books or typing away on the laptop. Have a look at what he’s writing here.

Das Troopy

Das Troopy

Good thing it’s a Troopy!

Markus first thought of ‘how he wanted to travel the country’ started with a bus slash minivan slash no fun-I have to stay on main roads and can go nowhere-camper. Luckily Lydia convinced him and sprouted the idea of how much more fun a 4WD will be.
